About EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an approach to psychotherapy that incorporates much of the wisdom of other therapies. It is an accelerated form of information processing used within a comprehensive treatment plan to promote recovery from intense memories.

When something traumatic happens to an individual, the experience is “frozen” on the side of the brain that does not have language, but the memory remains vivid and intense. Stimulating the brain hemispheres allows processing of the troubling incident to take place. The end result is that the memory fades into proper perspective, and is less disturbing.

EMDR is most useful with

  • Family of origin issues
  • Self-esteem healing
  • Performance enhancement
  • Reducing disturbing emotions
  • Post-tramatic stress disorder
